What decides your scrap van’s value

There’s no single price for a scrap van – every quote is based on the van in front of us. These are the things that matter most:

• Weight – scrap metal is priced by the tonne, so a long-wheelbase Transit or Sprinter is usually worth more than a small car-derived van.
• Make and model – popular vans have parts that are in demand, which can add value on top of the metal.
• Condition – a van that runs and drives, or only needs a repair, can be worth more than a non-runner or an accident write-off.
• Whether it’s complete – missing parts, such as the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter or wheels, lower the price.
• Metal prices – scrap metal prices go up and down, so the value of the same van can change from month to month.

How to get the best price

• Describe it accurately – tell us honestly whether it runs, what’s wrong with it and about any damage, so your offer reflects the van you actually have.
• Add photos – our quote form lets you upload up to 10 photos, which helps us give you an accurate offer quickly.
• Keep it complete – leave the catalytic converter, wheels and other parts on the van.
• Have the V5C logbook ready – it proves you own the van and makes the sale straightforward.

Does it matter if my van isn’t ULEZ compliant?

Will I get my road tax back?

Yes. When the Authorised Treatment Facility notifies the DVLA, any full months of unused road tax are refunded to you automatically.
